Seriously. Acknowledging women exist /= Being ruled by women. Not that it’s impossible but nothing about a figurine suggests it.
Ugh the awful things I’ve had to wear onstage being a musical theater actress could fill volumes. You suck it up and wear the costumes or you can’t be in the show.
I think you're on to something! I never understood why these things were considered fertility statues until I looked at myself in the mirror one day when I was about 8 months pregnant. I thought, "wow I look like one of those fertility statues!" Cue the lightbulb. Derp.
It sounds like her goal is to start a dance school rather than be a pro ballerina, so I’d think that shouldn’t be a problem.
That’s the most bizarre thing... How could someone even draw that conclusion? Just because they weren’t buried with men?
I have talked to so many white, straight men recently who keep saying that ‘nothing much will change’ regardless of who gets elected— and yeah, for THEM, probably the only thing that will change for them is their taxes. It goes to show how truly short-sighted they are that they don’t even bother to take into account…
If you’re overweight and/or have large breasts, you can’t see your feet when you look down. Judging by how far the figure’s breasts and belly stick out from where her eyeline is, she probably wouldn’t see her feet. So the figure is even more accurate to a woman looking down at herself. :)
No zealot like a convert. There was a Canadian TV show called Little Mosque on the Prairie about a mosque in a teeny town and on one episode a local white guy decided to convert, and he was so fanatical and extreme the members of the mosque secretly started gently steering him in the direction of a local Anglican…
Religion is a cultural artifact too. Everything we do is cultural.
Completely OT but ballet dancers scare the hell out of me. They are wicked fit and have an insane tollerance for pain. I know we are all concerned about aliens, zombies or AI, but if the ballerinas turn on us we are so screwed.
Yeah, that’s about where my support stops. If you willingly take on a role in another company and the designer is like “nope, that doesn’t work with my vision” I think as a performer you should either relent or quit. I doubt every single performer is 100% comfortable with what the designer makes them wear, but they do…
Sounds like she wants to start her own ballet company where the costume designers work with the dancers to create costumes that work with whatever beliefs the dancer has. Which sounds awesome.
Converts are usually pretty fanatical: since they weren’t raised in it and chose it, they often take it more seriously and not just as part of their culture or heritage.
Interesting. I feel that in the West, at least, warrior societies tended to be the cultures with women having the most rights.
Not surprising considering what Athena did to Medusa. When a Goddess treats women with such disdain, her people will too. What did Thomas Paine say? Oh yeah. "Belief in a cruel God makes a cruel man." Or something like that, and its true.
It’s scary. For years liberal dudes have been telling me how the two parties are basically the same. And it’s better not to vote or to vote third party. Because the only difference is maybe a democrat is pro-choice (which also usually goes with a lot of other pro-women attitudes). As if that is nothing. All things…
There’s so much more to Stonehenge (and many old archaelogical sites) than meets the eye. I remember having my mind blown when I watched this PBS documentary about it, because I always thought it was just a bunch of rocks that lined up with celestial bodies/events, and that was all there was to it.
Super interesting. I wish we knew more about the pre-Celtic Britons. British women now are pretty fierce and Celtic women in Britain were pretty fierce so it’s nice to think that has gone back a long way.
Kind of an interesting thought, how women’s status can go up and down through the years. Makes you wonder what could cause such a change where women would lose what they had gained. But look at what happened to Afghanistan. Women were doctors, lawyers, etc. Then the Taliban came in and poof! All gone. To bring it…
