For once I have no snark. These are creative, practical solutions that are overdue and incredibly welcome.
Do they come with 2 mysterious extra pieces that seem to be essential, but fit nowhere?
There is less of a risk and more of a gain to thinking outside the box when comes to television when compared to movies. There are so many more outlets for a show to air. You can go network. You can go basic cable. You can go premium cable. You can go online network. And all those places are scrambling to get the next…
Most shows are still well behind the diversity Star Trek had fifty years ago.
Off topic, but your post reminded me: Aziz Ansari’s new show, Master of None, has an episode where he and an Indian friend are both going to be cast in a TV show, but TV execs won’t hire two Indians because then it would be an “Indian” show. It’s really shrewd commentary on the diversity problem in Hollywood. Of…
It seems TV is getting better at having diverse casts than movies. One of my new favorite shows is Into the Badlands and it has a Chinese actor in the lead. Not only does he kick ass but he also has a love interest. He is a producer on the show.
Ohhhhh, yes. Good point. Mini bigot must always feel part of the majority.
Schools are very anti-legal action, and hate groups are historically dedicated enough to find the resources to sue over this sort of thing.
Parents honestly have far too many “rights” over their children. Why are children treated like parental property - I fundamentally do not understand that? It’s not just this, it’s also home schooling, anti-vaxxers etc. Surely a balance can be found between a parent’s right to raise their child but also society’s…
What right specifically are they alleging is being violated by an inclusive education; the right to indoctrinate your kids with bigotry? First that’s pathetic, but second this doesn’t actually prevent any parents from doing so in the least. In this case the parents are suing to deny ALL the kids an inclusive education…
Doesn’t matter. They know that the threat alone is usually enough to silence those whom they oppose, since — as was pointed out upthread — the school district likely couldn’t afford any lawsuit, whether they prevail or not. This is how litigious bullies of the fascist right win, and there’s unfortunately not much a…
If you have the money, you can do whatever you feel like even if it’s very stupid. Schools are known for evading legal action at any cost. It’s why I nearly got suspended for hugging someone in 1st grade. Apparently if I didn’t get punished, someone could start a legal battle over it or something.
So an organization that has the distinguished honor of being designated a hate group threatens to sue the school if they proceed with this reading and the school bows down to them? Shame on this school. Total and utter shame. You gave in to the very bullies you seek to eliminate.
Because then your mini bigot might be excluded instead of Jazz.
I should be able to sue Texas school districts for teaching only abstinence in sex education if this is how lawsuits work.
For the Umpteenth time:
Why is it so hard for these people to understand that your rights end where other people’s rights begin?
The school offered them the ability to exempt their children. This isn’t about protecting their rights — it’s about bullying others into giving up theirs.
What the hell? Why not just have your kid sit out if you are so scared of a little inclusive education? Why force your prejudice on everyone else?
