In general, too many movies mistake "ZOMG CAN SHOOT THINGS" with "strong woman!"

If by successful you mean that the woman who bought them (ugh!) made money, then yes. The sisters themselves didn't see much of it.

It made pretty much the exact distinction that you are—enough with the guns and leather—what we want is to see female humans behaving like humans.

What about those girls that share one body? That's tricky.

Or she was a person at the losest part of her life trying and failing to find anything to grasp onto and freaking the fuck out when she feels her best friend slipping away.

Sex worked pretty well for Chang and Eng Bunker. They had a total of 21 kids. They married two sisters, and would split their time between their two houses (next door to one another for convenience).

I found her insufferable and selfish in some parts (like when she ruins the bridal shower by making it all about her) and lovable in other parts (like when she's shooting the shit with Maya Rudolph's character). I didn't think that movie was perfect in its messages/attitudes about women. But I thought it was HUGE

Ghibli films also feature some fantastic female villains, because they apply the same standard of top-notch characterization. It's been a few years since I saw the film, but I just reread the Nausicaa comics and Princess Kushana is a great example of how to take a"strong female character" archetype, make her

I found Wyldestar pretty boring myself, because she was a cookie-cutter tough chick/love interest. What saved The Lego Movie for me was Unikitty.

There was an essay a couple of years back that was circulating on the internet about the difference between Strong Female Characters (TM) and Strong Characters, Female. It made pretty much the exact distinction that you are—enough with the guns and leather—what we want is to see female humans behaving like humans.

I don't usually like Strong Female Characters even when they're not used as plot devices...they're so one-dimensional. I'd rather watch a story about a woman or man who has vulnerabilities and flaws and insecurities but can do some cool shit as needed. (There are very few female Lovable Losers, which is why Bridesmaids

I honestly have always thought that Marge Simpson was a good example of a strong female character. Yeah, she's married to a guy who's kind of a dope, but she's fully realized and has multiple facets to her personality. She's essentially the glue that holds her family together.

they're trying to help people who had a stroke not cause a new one.

It's never enough until we get a current gen Echo.

Isn't playing Ecco the Dolphin enough? Get these stroke patients a Genesis!

It's interesting to watch as a Canadian because our right wing party has become quite successful with a lot of visible minorities and recent immigrants by just listening and recognizing that they're also Canadians. For example, lots of people who immigrated legally have major concerns about people immigrating

Occasionally the GOP will get SERIOUS about minority outreach, and will say "ok LET'S MAKE AN EFFORT to get these african americans/hispanics/whatevers to vote Republican!"

LOL except we have a 70 character limit on headlines.
