I would say "stunt feet" so that he doesn't hurt himself running through the streets in a scene where he's supposed to be barefoot.

I really miss Wilhelm writing science fiction, could never really get into her lawyer-mysteries. I tore through everything I could find of hers back in high school. I remember the copy of "Sweet Birds" I read had the Escher cover.
@JAC: Hey now, not everybody on Jezebel is completely humorless. Me, for example.
@vrey_oneida: I could care less about this whole argument and I really mean that.
@GusF: An elephant will go you one better than that.
@alchematrix: @cheshirecat99: She turned you (both) into a newt?
@Ding-Dang: How do you know she is a witch?
@Magnakai Haaskivi: I think you have to blame Esther for that one, not the scientist. The linked article makes no mention of "guessing."
@Gaudy Mouse Muad'Dib: I've actually liked a number of Merchant-Ivory films so that isn't a death knell for me. A big part of the problem for me with the book is that the author tried to treat the organ harvesting as some sort of Shamalyan-esque big twist and as a regular sf reader I felt that it was so obvious and…
I'm so torn on the movie. I like the actors that are in this. I feel like I should support good, intelligent science fiction that isn't filled with splosions in order to encourage studios to make more good, intelligent science fiction that isn't filled with splosions. But I found the book to be quite tedious to…
@piero_capurro: Maybe we should call this process "homoconditioning."
@Malcontent79: Nancy Kress did something like this with the "Sheffield Drive" she borrowed from her husband to use in Crossfire and Crucible. It's been too many years since I've read them to go into details now though.
@amoureuse attend le retour de Mz. Jenkins: Christine O'Donnell, is that you?
@nibnycgrrl: wanna bet?
@Bleh: Was Mazer retconned as a Maori at some point? I don't remember that from my first reading but found it to be the case when I re-read it last year.
You just know that cat in # 9 is going crap on that guy's pillow later.
@hdgotham (Hannah Wilson): Why do you have a lot of really old National Geographics in your house?
@Tyrunn: If Gaudy Mouse Muad'dib were making that prediction I might believe it.
@enderwiggin13: Not sure exactly how old I was when I first read it, but definitely an adult (post-college) and it really stuck with me as well. I have found though that it doesn't hold up particularly well to re-reading unlike some of my other favorite books.
@Tyrunn: Lucky you. My favorite book is Dune. grrrrrr
