They weren't the prettiest thing out there, but in a low speed collision (around 20ish mph), the bumpers on my 1988 325is came out fairly unscathed (save for a cracked piece of trim and a few scuffs). Hood got pushed up a bit as well, but overally not too bad considering. Perhaps making a variation on this a bit more

I actually wish my R53 was smaller, as I think they oversized them just a bit. But nonetheless, I was drawn to it for the supercharged engine/6 speed manual/handling combination.
