True. Although, I don’t know if white people are their target audience anymore. I was born and raised Catholic. The Catholic Church in my hometown in the Midwest was >95% white people, but I do think their numbers are dwindling, as privileged white people have better ways to spend their Sundays. Some only go to

I mean, he is a radical by the standards of the Catholic hierarchy, but when compared with Catholic laypeople in the US, he’s not amazingly liberal. There’s always been a strong disconnect at a political level between the bureaucracy and ordinary Catholics in the US, which was why it was vexing to hear people here

Just another day in the life of Cool Pope, y’all!

Militarily, there’s little they can do, since they are a sovereign nation enacting their own laws, against their own people. At best the UN can vote to condemn the action, although with the current members of the UN Human Rights Council, you currently have some real winners in there :(

Yer a Wizard, Harris would have been a better pun

“Ilhan Omar made some tweets, and was blamed by many for feeding into rising anti-Semitic violence with her words. And Chelsea Clinton was the one who opened the flood gates on that shit.”

Jews were upset that her phrasing was highly adjacent to coded language about Jews having dual loyalties that have been used

It’s important to note that Chelsea’s “as an American citizen” line was in response to a woman in that thread who said, “As a Jewish woman”. People ignored that to make it seem like this is proof positive that Chelsea Clinton hates brown people or something.

It’s aparently not ironic at all that people who want to make the point that criticizing Israel isn’t antisemitism think criticizing Omar is anti-Islam.

Bernie Sanders supporters pulling the focus to themselves and making discussion about the actual issue nearly impossible? Check.

Chelsea Clinton’s reaction to a deeply offensive accusation was incredibly polite. She’s impressive as hell. The students not so much.

Leen Dweik seems nice.

Chelsea was there because she’s an assistant vice-provost at NYU and co-founder and co-chair of a multi-faith leadership group there. That group was involved in the vigil.

All its missing is the Young Turks spending a good day blaming the establishment media for this....somehow.

“Your interpretation of our tweet is completely wrong! You killed people with it! Our interpretation of your tweet is completely right! Apologize to us! On video and on the internets!

So we’re supposed to be mad at Chelsea Clinton why exactly? These students just went up to a stranger and blamed her for 49 deaths based on nothing, at best they are unbelievably rude.

Bernie Sanders supporters acting like assholes? Check. Bernie Sanders supporters being completely irrational about the Clintons? Check. Bernie Sanders supporters pulling the focus to themselves and making discussion about the actual issue nearly impossible? Check. How much do you want to bet at the planning meeting

Of course it isn’t antisemitic to criticize Israel. Nobody on the left has suggested otherwise. It IS antisemitic to say it’s all about the Benjamins and say people are swearing allegiance to the state of Israel over the interests of the United States, which is Protocols of Zion shit.

Personally I feel Omar’s comments were antisemitic. If a politician had used the same type of stereotypical imagery to talk about Muslims, they would rightfully have been accused of islamiphobia, even if they had made those comments in the context of, say, otherwise valid criticism of Saudi Arabia. It’s true that

And they thought they could raise money for themselves off the publicity, Dweik’s got a Venmo up. Let me see them pull this kind of confrontation with Ivanka, who actually has a role in her fathers White House which Chelsea has never had, and then I’ll believe it isnt just a publicity stunt attacking someone who won’t

I have no love for the Clinton’s, but these students are 100% wrong on every level. This is a very lame event and controversy.
