This movie (10) came out in 1979 and the braids were a topic of conversation. It was appropriation then and it is now. But it isn’t new appropriation.

While I’m all about a diverse bachelorette, I would not have tuned in for Caila. She was low-key crazy, and not in an endearing or amusing way. I think ABC was going to cast her, but she was just too boring. I seriously doubt this was a race issue. It was a boring issue.
Its like how often the only way to get a creep to leave you alone is to say you’re already dating someone. Women and, their thoughts and feelings, don’t matter in and of themselves, but only as they relate to a man. Once again demonstrating that a disturbingly large number of men just don’t see women as real people.
