This is the problem with 401ks — options. If it doesn’t say index fund, it’s not an index fund (look for “Index” or “IDX” in the Fund Name). My plan offers very few, but luckily in our program there is a Fidelity fund that has been pretty much lights-out the last few years. But not all plans offer even one!
