People like her believe that a toddler being accidentally shot by an older sibling, a person killing their partner thinking they are an intruder or a man killing 58+ people at a concert is just the price we have to pay for freedom.

This would have been absolutely politicized had the gunman a foreign sounding name (read Muslim), was brown, or had any religious leanings (again, Muslim).

Suicides aren’t accidental.

I think it’s fair if they are also lumping in accidental shootings. Disingenuous if not. And definitely important to include a break down either way.

I know. I read her essay awhile back, which was very moving and tragic. I personally think we should include suicides in gun deaths because it makes it easier to complete suicide. But I understand also why people wouldn’t include it.

Oh I’m sure. That’s how so many people feel. Their hobbies apparently are more valuable than human lives. We have more fucking guns in the US than people. We’re a sick people.

On German TV, in an effort to explain Americans and guns, they interviewed a woman who’s part of one of those private “militia group”. When she said, we shouldn’t restrict guns access for everyone, just because there are a few crazies out there, I think I blacked out from rage.

Oh absolutely it’s for profit. The gun lobbyists and the people they’ve bought all benefit from mass shootings. It’s disgusting.

Exactly. And the republican politicians are chiming in with thoughts and prayers which politicizes it by sticking their nose in it.

Same, and I’ve been saying if this was ANYTHING else, we wouldn’t even blink about “politicizing” it. If there was a massive salmonella outbreak because the FDA had loosened restrictions on food safety, would people be asking us to not “politicize” the issue out of respect to those effected? No, they’d be up in arms…

Fuck this whole don’t politicize this tragedy crap. It’s the GOP and NRA that makes this political. But I have zero faith in our government and the American people. I wonder how the right will manage to blame Hillary and Obama.

If Sandy Hook didn’t bring about significant change, nothing will.

These started popping up in Connecticut after Sandy Hook. It’s a good way to spot a total piece of shit, since their reaction to hearing that dozens of children had just been murdered was OH NO MY GUNS!

That’s just it. After Sandy Hook it became painfully apparent that a lot of Americans believe that people getting gunned down is collateral damage for their right to own their guns. That’s it. Game over.

Gun issue aside. Watching this is sad because it reminds me of a time when a president could speak intelligently in public.

The word terrorism has already been coopted to mean whenever a brown person did something bad. By calling white shooters terrorists it combats that coopting.

We don’t know if it is an act of terrorism. If the motive is political and/or religious then, yes, this was an act of terrorism. If it was any other reason like he hated the singer and his fans or little green men in space told him to do it or he wanted to feel what it was like to be God and smite people or whatever,…

I’m beyond sad that there’s been another senseless mass shooting in America. Instead of sadness, I’m feeling anger.
