How does this cake thing play out?

I like it because they don’t lie.

No no, you are definitely the normal one here.

This is actually an argument that is made by the bigots who want this kind of religious-motivated discrimination to be legal - let the market decide.

The strategy AFAIK is to encourage businesses to refuse to make Satan cakes so that the Temple can bring a lawsuit to court that takes full advantage of the same religious protections enjoyed by Christians.

“It would be more prudent to just run them out of business by boycotting them,”

As I understand it, it’s not about the individual businesses so much as the legislation that protects them. The baker doesn’t have to serve gays, says the law, but he will have to serve the Satanic Temple. Generally, just getting the word out that Satanists are protected by the same rules that Christians are using

No the Church of Satan are pretentious cosplayers, the Satanic Temple are the litigation-happy promoters of intellectual freedom (still weirded out that I know the difference between Satanic organizations!)

Short Version: no.

Long Version: Well, there’s two publicly stated reasons why it’s called the “Satanic Temple.” One is the pure shock value towards “Christians(tm)” (as opposed to “christians”). The other is the fact that in the Bible (or at least the popular image of the bible), Satan (in the form of the snake) gave

Plus the Satanic Temple headquarters is like a former funeral home that’s been converted into an art gallery, so you can eat cake in a really neat space.

If these zealots are the only ones serving a huge region of the state then couples don’t really have much of a choice. Not many professional cake makers are willing to travel great distances to deliver a cake that costs less than several thousands of dollars, especially when most don’t even have a refrigerated truck

The difference being the Starbucks baristas never said they wouldn’t serve coffee to right wing assholes and those people having them write Merry Christmas or whatever else on the cup doesn’t piss off the baristas (most likely, idk, I don’t know their lives but they didn’t design the cups that seem to offend all those

If I were a bakery owner, would I be able to tell Christians that I can’t make their cake because their religious beliefs go against my religious beliefs? My religious beliefs are pretty much militant atheism at this point (a reaction to hypocrisy of organized religion), but would I have any legal ground here? I’m so

So let me get this straight: in the past decade, SCOTUS has made it legal for gays to get married, but not to have cake at their wedding.

They’re still a bunch of weirdos, though.

If it ends up coming to be that business can deny service because of sincerely held religious beliefs, it is obviously going to be difficult to come up with a litmus test to determine if their believe is genuinely sincere right? So I propose this: The Bible speaks out very clearly against usury, so I propose that any

No. It actually has nothing to do with the “Satan” from Christian scriptures. From their FAQ (Do You Worship Satan?):

Nah they don’t really believe in Satan. It’s literally a religion about sticking it to organized religion.

You don’t have to do anything. The member of the satanic temple can go there, order the cake you want at your wedding and tell them “This cake is being ordered by a member of the satanic temple in order to praise satan”

I wish I was goth in high school instead of emo because that would have been a better foundation for how seriously I’m considering becoming a Satanist now.
