I don’t know if that's the best advice anymore - I’m paying $150-160 for two grandfathered lines with ATT right now, with no tethering, no international data/texting. If I’m ok with Tmobile’s coverage, their unlimited plan is $120 INCLUDING tethering AND unlimited international texting/2G data.
