Depending on the hobby, I think you can classify it under one or more of the four. It may have a health benefit (perhaps mental rather than physical health, but that’s just as important), it may be a way of connecting with friends/family, and it may be a long-term investment in your career.

Tecnically, sure, but the point is that if you’re comparing renting vs. buying, you’re comparing the one rent number to mortgage+taxes+repairs. I don’t think anyone fails to understand that repairs and taxes are part of what you’re paying for with rent.
Characters that belabor their straightness aren’t rare at all. I can think of plenty of male characters who have an especially high interest in sleeping with women as one of their defining characteristics. Nor are the necessarily uninteresting characters.
