Mary Roach had a new book come out a year or two ago (nonfic), she’s both amazing and hilarious, Nnedi Okorafor has some new stuff out (sci fi), and  The Woman Who Smashed Codes is still queued up behind a couple of other books on my shelf, but I’ve only heard good things about it.

English Vinglish is wonderful, and she was absolutely incredible in it. I can’t believe this.

For all that men’s is becoming a quad competition, they did still need artistry to get on top this year, which is good.

*whispers* I wish Alina Zagitova’s costumes had more silhouette variety. *goes back to hole*

I worry that a lot of the young Russian kids (they’re kids!) are burning out super quickly, they aren’t getting the chance to grow.

Props to Clover for Men’s Health, a delightfully weird reading experience.

Oh yeah, it’s definitely subject specific, and post-high school none of my classes looked at it either. I just think it’s weird that they’re so hung up about this, because when someone assigns the Communist Manifesto it’s usually just because you’re learning it exists.

They had us read it in high school for European history, but like.... it’s an influential book. You’re not gonna teach a class on Victorian lit without mentioning Dickens.

I assumed they were great, but then this was even better?

I froze up and didn’t do enough to interfere with a man who was PRETTY CLEARLY crossing social boundaries w/ a woman last night (the one bright spot was it wasn’t sexual), and I’m so fucking mad at myself for not breaking through the “be polite at all costs” conditioning. He just bulldozed over everyone’s attempts to

“He pulled your hair because he likes you.”

Holiday Inn Express doesn’t deserve this.

Deniss Vasiljevs’ sequined blazer is all I want out of this life, for every NYE until the end of time.

Arguably that can make the sibling pairs really refreshing, as they’re they only ones not reenacting Days of Our Lives.

Idk, they had to have been hyper-aware that starting something meant they risked fucking up their chemistry. Finding a compatible partner is hard; one wrong move and they kill their gold medal chances.

It’s because the kids of today aren’t hearing yesterday’s crap.

Considering two of them jumped 6 and 12 spots, respectively, it’s pretty damn good.

No one’s on Hanyu’s level, but Chen has enough sheer technical clout to come close.

I think they’ve been more measured with Tennell so far. Tennell’s good, for sure, but not “won nationals with a 20-30 point lead” good, and a lot of Chen’s hype was because he’s just *that* far ahead of every other U.S. skater on a technical scale.

And of COURSE nbc primetime didn’t show it, bc ghrfhehrhrhfhghggfflr.
