My problem with Netflix is it all looks like trash and I have no way to separate the wheat from the chaff.  I’m sure there’s interesting stuff there but it just all looks like direct to video movies.  Their vaunted “recommendation algorithm” really isn’t good enough.

Fans are going to watch this thing multiple times in the theater.

I admire it myself as a fan of capitalism.

It will be one of the 9 movies nominated for a best picture oscar to get the rubes to watch.

Take that Drumpf

I just don’t get why Netflix movies are eligible for an Oscar but HBO movies aren’t, for all intents and purposes they are distributed the same way.

I actually think Spielberg has a point and is trying to defend film distributors / his industry. Almost all of Netflix’s releases seem like TV movies to me. There’s no actual release beyond a few cities for eligibility.

It’s a shame because a lot of talent was on display for such a disappointing result.

My understanding is you can pay for premium features and that’s a lot of their revenue:

It’s probably their most profitable user

They hated the individual mandate i.e. higher taxes from Obamacare. Until Democrats get this they are screwed.

They are fine with those things if they think they are on their side. Trump convinced a lot of people he was on their side, in particular people who felt neglected. Democrats need to figure out how to do that, and do that for people in states like Michigan/Wisconsin/Pennsylvania or he’s getting re-elected.

I don’t think he’s a genius but I appreciate that he follows his own muse instead of trying to be fashionable.

Loved the A Story, meh on the B story

It’s a nice twist on the man who wasn’t there

“what tone it’ll strike”

All your base are belong to us was way before 2004 I thought.

I saw Heathers when I was way too young and found it deeply unpleasant/disturbing. I think if I saw it again I’d be way too old to appreciate it as well and again find it deeply unpleasant. You have to be basically between the ages of 12 and 18 and a social outcast I think to really like this movie.

It’s an (imperfect) way to find good shows/movies.

I was really looking forward to to this and was disappointed by the negative buzz. Glad it got a good review from Mike D no less. This hopefully succeeds where Inherent Vice failed.
