Most cops became cops to get bad guys, and they will always err on the side of assuming that a maybe-bad guy is a bad guy. And it takes a special breed to go into ICE enforcement, since by definition every arrest you make rips a human being away from his life and family. Yeah, don’t expect anything but quickened

I don’t understand anything about this situation. A woman who was 8 months pregnant was bleeding and FIVE FUCKING DAYS later gives birth in her jail cell? In five days, they couldn’t have googled it and realized she needed to go the hospital? Do they not have a protocol for this type of thing? How does this shit even

Another thing lost in this whole shit sandwich story is the $10K bail for driving on a suspended license. Granted, I do not know all circumstances, but in what world is this an appropriate amount?

We apparently live in bizarro world where people end up in jail with 10k bonds for *driving on a suspended license*.

Seriously, she had no business being there. Impound the car if she’s a dangerous driver, stick an ankle monitor on her, whatever, but jail? FFS. What a waste of money.

“Again, do I like to have babies born in our jail? No,” Wickersham said.

I actually felt like a total jerk because I’m about as pregnant as she is, and I kept telling my husband all during the first half of the season that I thought she was pregnant. She was in loose fitting clothes, sitting down or hidden behind objects more than usual, and sometimes Gina would disappear from episodes

I’m going to be a grown-up and get over the fact that Jordan Peele impregnated someone other than me to wish them both the best.

“I’m vegan...”

I used to volunteer a lot for Planned Parenthood in Los Angeles, and much of that was “community outreach” — going to communities that had a clinic and passing out information about the services it offered. The very first time I did one of those, I had what remains the most rewarding and simultaneously most

Yeah, there was definitely a process of desensitization (if that’s even the right word) at work.... Have you read Tim Snyder’s Bloodlands? He does what I think is an incredible job showing how both the Nazis and the Soviets unleashed horror on the civilian populations of what’s now Russia, Poland, Ukraine, Belarus,

Patrick Desbois! He published a book about his work; I’ve had students read excerpts of it. It’s crazy how long it took for these stories to reach a global audience, though.

While some camps made a weak effort to conceal their murderous operations, Sobibor was clearly a death camp: prisoners were often taken straight from the trains to the gas chambers. After an uprising in October 1943, Nazis destroyed the camp and attempted to eradicate all evidence of the killings. But researchers have

Mon dieu, not my chapeau!

wtf is a dress shop? when in the fuck did i happen upon 1917?

The haberdasheries are all out of haberdash!

Why would all of the celebrities coming to DC purchase their dresses in the city? I mean, most of them probably live in places like NYC and LA; wouldn’t they purchase their dresses in their hometowns, and then bring them to DC? Some many questions....
