My Lit class friends and I were similarly perplexed as to how the book’s characterization of Edward as unhandsome, etc fit with the casting of Hugh Grant. Hello, Elinor?

I once saw that quote in the window of a Half-Priced Books.

This is just perfect positioning. Elegant lady clearly belongs in that spot.

I agree with your comment, but I did want to mention that the shop owner spoke to the local news in the days following the murder—and apparently he wasn’t onsite at the time. It was the person staffing the store who called the police. I don’t know whether that person is still employed at the shop, but the owner did Read more

The reporting timelines I’ve seen claim the CME report from Hennepin did actually list homicide as the cause of death (along with all the distracting information shoved into it), but someone in the county--whether it be a PR cover-up or something insidious far deeper in the system--basically did a William Barr and Read more

I appreciate this list, but I wish you would change the lede photo. It contains at least two items from Bobbi Brown Cosmetics, which is decidedly NOT cruelty-free. Read more

I just had to do this as well. We wound up holding a small dish up to his mouth so he could drink from it with the cone on. But if your cat is finnicky about drinking water, Cat Sip is another way to encourage liquid consumption.

Yes. I didn’t see it until I posted, but that made me roll my eyes. Especially Harris and Booker’s emotion was so touching.

This is far less mentioned, but one does have to wonder whether her presence on the ticket could potentially mobilise a bit of the South Asian vote. However, most of my friends who live in the Bay Area were vehemently opposed to her during the primaries.

I’m reminded of a Charles Blow column (from the W Bush presidency) that starts out saying “If Republicans care so much about Black babies not being aborted, they have to care about them after they’re born”. The threat for them seems to start the second they stop being fetuses and start being people.

I just that read The Help is back on Netflix’s most watched list. What the hell, fellow white people? You made a much better choice. ❤

I squeak by on the free daily puzzles, and pre-pandemic I used to do the crossword in a print copy scavenged from my local coffee shops. (Yes, I’m that asshole.)

Jesus Fecking Christ, that’s chilling. Twice today I’ve done this logical hopscotch of whether these NYT Op-Ed callbacks are real or low-level photoshop, but they’ve both been faithful reproductions.

I know. But I also wanted to add a counterpoint to think about extending the timeline. Because, if nothing else, the governing body was founded and built upon the looting of bodies and lands from...pick any of these dates...to the present.

Correction: the 17-year-old caller said a 5-person commission was too small to represent the citizens of LA and called for a larger citizens’ oversight committee to replace it.

While the humourous and sweary calls are what is blowing up on Twitter, I listened to most of the 8-hour call and will say that, interspersed with people going off in creative or just plain outraged ways, the call was full of people who brought the receipts and said they attend the in-person meetings on a regular
