I've only read book 1 & part of book 2 (snore) and this is my guess as well. My friend who has made it through book 3 now believes me (but hasn't seen the need to convince me to read the rest....).

I wasn't a fan of Leviathan Wakes but I only made it about 100 pages in before giving up. I will probably try it again but my Daniel Abraham track record is terrible. I read some spoilers that made me more interested in it, though!

My pale ginger brother is terrified of the sun to the point where I am not sure I recall the last time he spent more than 10 minutes in sunlight. I got sunburnt once and now I understand his pain.

I liked Feed enough but I thought Deadline rocked, especially in comparison. However, did anyone else not really like the in-crowd references (or what I assumed were zombie/etc references)? I think some of my enjoyment of Feed was tempered by the fact I got like, 0 of them (oh, well, I got Irwin, I suppose).

HMM, I do think that the "future" is an interesting hit, but couldn't it just be a universe with time "running" differently (as who says they all have to reckon time the same exact way?)? A third universe, if you will? Or one that deviated from "ours" (or perhaps, Fringe's never really was meant to be ours, and this

I'm pretty certain my vote's going to be between Hundred Thousand Kingdoms and Dervish House, which is one of the two I haven't read (along with Cryoburn, where I have that several books behind problem!)

Nice! I'm pretty excited because this year I've already read quite a few of the nominees, so that challenge will only take 2 to complete! (Which is good, because I want to progress on my very stalled mixed re-read/first read of the Culture as well!)

I've read a few of these, but I also misread the title and thought it was a list of great *science fiction* books written people who also happened to be great (or at least) scientists.

Now I'm quite curious to who you are! I recently threw a "highly regarded" fantasy epic across a room for not having any realistic female characters. (Hence why I am not replying to the post directly as I pretty much only feel rage towards the genre as a whole after attempting to read 10-15 "recommended" ones and

I skipped prom to watch Doctor Who (it was Human Nature. One of my least favorite episodes!) and have only made it through the first ASOIF. I will be watching both, but bring on Doctor Who!

As someone with a side academic interest in marine geology & bathymetry, this makes me a bit disappointed, but this is actually a pretty big issue where I live because of military drills & their impact of wildlife.

I'm currently reading about genetic dispersal studies on bobcats and they get around A LOT more than humans in terms of genetic exchange, especially between semi-local populations, but I suppose they do have smaller generations...and no privacy concerns about determining genetic & health information from their ahem,

Looks like its a type of image processing software that I now covet. "Fusion (formerly Digital Fusion) is an image compositing software program created by eyeon Software Inc. It is typically used to create visual effects and digital compositing for film, HD and commercials" (Amusingly, googling "deep digital fusion"

I'm not sure on 4, but I think 6 is because I had to write a paper on it in college.

I have the UK edition and would be really surprised if they changed much for the US. Because of the intense, intense world-specific language usage, there were really not many instances of words that would be spelled/used differently. If that makes sense.

I'm currently reading 3 of the books on the chart. Of those, my favorite is most definitely Deathless, which even though I've not finished it, I've already lent to my mother (because of science fiction/fantasy she only reads China Mieville and I'm trying to expand her reading list).

Actually, I still haven't made it through Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom because I first tried to watch it when I was quite young and um, couldn't make it through some scenes. And I haven't seen Ghostbusters again either. Huh.

Well, Geoff Marcy, Exo-Planet Discoverer thought my old favorite Moon landing site was a bit passé. So it is time I found a new one :P?

Yeeaaa, there is a DEM on JPL's site but I'd have to play around with it a bit. Doesn't look too promising.

"Most reference books will note that because the moon rotates only once during each revolution about the Earth, we never see more than half of its total surface."
