Seconded. I am in San Diego and spend all my free time plotting my escape.
It really is a problem.
I am sitting at a hackathon right now. I am now brogrammer spotting
Does anyone telecommute to an office that is separated by at least a time zone? A client I talked to today is under the impression I work remotely, and now I am wondering why I don't, and where I should move if I can arrange this freedom. But doing anything more than a morning at home seems scary!
I find the current Republican party pretty threatening to my reproductive system and would like it to stay very, very far away.
This kind of reminds me of this YA SF book I read recently, where the author is very adamantly like, afraid of technology and lives on a farm and doesn't really engage with the technological world. The book wasn't necessarily completely awful because of it, but if you're that afraid, almost reactionary, and don't know…
I never had an interest in small children until I started taking birth control pills (so yes, I do blame the hormones). Luckily, that is in fact a preventative measure.
I could never be an astronaut. My vision wouldn't stay stable at 20/20 long enough to complete an ISS mission. Also I get very motion sick. It would be a constant state of Vomit Comet misery. The closest I got to space recently was the Palomar Observatory, and I managed to get sick just going there.
The novel I wrote when I was 15 I now realize is a complete rip off of Jack McDevitt-style archaeological space adventure. Though I clearly hadn't actually read any of it, as it was completely horrific and derivative. Just saying, why would anyone want to be published that young (let's ignore the fact I did, haha)?
This is why I have serious issues with alternate history and how alternate universes are often portrayed. Everything's just a little bit off, right? Wait, what? (Also, remember your longer term birth control solutions like IUDs for alternate universe travel.)
Is it bad that my first thoughts were, oh, that's not one I'd hack?
Justin & friends contemplate next movie
I'm kind of disappointed I returned this one immediately the library (I had intended to put a different "Freedom" on hold), because it did sound pretty interesting once I looked into it!
Yeah, I don't recall it working the way described. Surface Detail does have that component, but I personally wouldn't put it anywhere near #1.
I haven't seen Jurassic Park since I watched it during the Super Bowl in kindergarten and I ended up screaming. A lot. I just dug up a list of "top sci-fi movies from the 80s" and I've seen.. 3 of them? Whenever I think about watching another one, I trip and fall and watch Blade Runner again. It's becoming a problem.
I read what I would what have considered to be a fair amount of ebooks but I just did the math— ~75% of the books I've read in the last year have been print. 38% of the total were checked out from a library, though an interesting trend is that I have been reading more library books now that I get them ebooks. I'm…
I'm thinking Laura Palmer but I'm not sure if we have any extra clear plastic tarp and I don't want to sacrifice the shower curtain.
So io9 meetup for the legal tour of the Mojave Spaceport?
Well, I have the previous books for like 5 of these, so I should get on that before I acquire the new ones, right? Right...
