Yep. I’m pretty sure the whole thing is a myth, but I can’t find actual data on it from any side, proving it or disproving it. I do know that when you go to a Megan’s Law website, almost everyone on there is a rapist or child rapist.

You’re on a post about a little boy who was raped and murdered and you’re most worried about internet commenters saying mean things about convicted sex offenders?

How many public urinators do you think are really on the sex offender registry? :/

That’s because they’re based on recidivism rates, which looks at those who are convicted again. Given that the vast majority of rapes aren’t even reported, let alone prosecuted (successfully or not), the official recidivism rate doesn’t mean much.

Thank you! The chance that someone is actually prosecuted and convicted of a sex crime is about 3 in 100. The chance that will happen twice? Even less likely. That’s not good enough evidence to say that sex offenders are not likely to reoffend.

I feel like there's some YA novel with that title

Exactly! I was looking for a post about Korean bbq. It's so good (& fun!)

I mostly like my name and I don’t think my mom regrets naming me it, but one thing I don’t like about it is that it doesn’t really fit with my family’s ethnic/religious background...

He doesn’t

Ginger beer isn’t usually alcoholic! There are some kinds that do have alcohol, but generally it’s “beer” as much as ginger ale is “ale.” It’s usually pretty good! You have to buy it from small companies that sell it in glass bottles. If you have a Cost Plus World Market near you, they have some really good ones.

At least if it was scripted then everyone involved would know it’s fake. I mean, I hope the celebrities on the show are just doing it for publicity/attention, but it’d be sad if they really believed they were talking to their dead loved ones :[

Yessssss. I love Burning Love! And I like How Did This Get Made too

Yes and no. Some people still love her personality, but others find it grating. She’s been lying low lately, though, so she doesn’t become too over-exposed. On the other hand, people are getting sick of her playing characters who are in their 30s and 40s, especially considering there are so few parts for actresses

I agree. It’s a shame so many male directors are enamored with casting leading actresses who are in theirs 20s - they haven’t had enough time to perfect their acting skills. By the time most actresses have developed their craft, directors have moved on to the next ingenue.

also on there: Spring Breakers

That’s a good one too!

It does vary. Though to be fair, it looks like the book you’re talking about was published about 30 years after Anne of Green Gables was.

Unfortunately, a lot of books about girls in the 19th and early 20th centuries were like that. The books are a reflection of their times and of the expectations of women.
