Exactly. I’m assuming based on my professional experience that it wasn’t so much a learning disability that made her not really have these cognitive functions that are part of normal human development and rather a mild cognitive disability that affected her understanding of the world around her.

I kind of get the vibe too that he has something going on in terms of a developmental disability. It doesn't excuse his actions, but it's something to take into account in terms of his judgement of the world around him.
