Other than the fact that it’s branded with the university’s name, this isn’t an “extracurricular” activity. It’s the minor league of a pro sport. The problem is that there are suckers who identify with a particular brand of laundry.

Letting in students who aren’t qualified already compromises one’s integrity. The defense of this is that they’re being given an opportunity. If that’s the case, give it to unqualified kids who actually want to learn and be a student.
In the early 00's, Tennessee football was accused of academic fraud (similar to UNC) but their coach, Phil Fulmer, cut a deal with the NCAA where they got some light penalties. The reason Fulmer cut a deal was so the NCAA could go after an Alabama booster paying players. That showed me the priorities of the NCAA.
It’s no surprise that people will break rules for individual advantage. The fact that people at UNC cheated doesn’t say anything that we don’t already know about human nature. Apparently, shame isn’t enough deterrent. That’s why there are punishments.
I was really hoping this was one of those troll posts where the comments are closed.
Yeah, this is the part I don’t get.
Gee, maybe not caring about their seed should’ve occured about two months and 1000 LeBron minutes ago.
Your point about Maureen Dowd notwithstanding, at least Dowd wasn’t a political operative (at least AFAIK).
All young men go through a phase of worshipping some very clever loudmouth contrarian smug asshole with a drug problem and mental health issues.
The NYTimes isn’t in the market to cover local sports in the way many papers do. We have the Post and the Daily News for that. In the same way that the Times doesn’t have a comics page, and a full-color comics insert on Sunday, it doesn’t need to have full local sports coverage.
You can mewl that the triple-double is arbitrary or that it’s only meaningful insofar as it is an interesting quirk of the stat line, rather than a legitimate achievement in its own right, or that none of this means so much for a relatively middling team such as the Thunder. That, however, would be stupid.
This. Soon as I saw the pic I became a towel truther.
Along with the destabilizing stuff medrawt points out, I am under the impression that one of Osama bin Laden’s initial serious beefs with the US was our putting crusaders in the land of Mecca and Medina; i.e., military bases all over Saudi Arabia.
And directly below this article title:
“So, when you guys are off duty, do you go to Martha’s Vineyard? You make ... what does a poor person make ... $200k a year? Is that right? That feels right.”
Wilt refused to move to Philadelphia when he was playing there. He continued to live in New York and commute from there. That ruled out morning practices, so the team switched to afternoon practices to accommodate him. His teammates hated that.
Yeah, I don’t disagree. I just also think C&T is the high point of the Republicans refusing to take yes for an answer. Once they crossed that line there was nothing they couldn’t just say no to.
Romneycare, the Massachusetts version that’s doing quite well, and served as the model for Obamacare, pays for abortions. Just sayin’.
The best comparison isn’t the ACA, it’s Cap and Trade. The Republicans had just spent a whole year running on c&t as the alternative to Democrats environmental efforts. Then, after Obama won, he made a concession by supporting his opponents plan, only to have them turn against it.
