truly for the most part, unless it’s an A lister, people borrow dresses from a stylist. i do it. i also have hired the stylist for shoots. i borrow and return dresses. i have worn a dress that gwen stefani has worn. meaning - unless it’s A list celeb at A list event (my ex boyfriend was sent a custom Armani suit b/c

It does seem that she both left it rather last minute (in the scheme of these things); is seeking a free, custom outfit from only a selection of probably top lines; and is interpreting refusals as body-shaming (either purposely or ignorantly).

As an assistant to a wealthy person myself, I can see how that might be easier than saying “I wasn’t able to convince them to make a custom dress” because they didn’t have strong enough name recognition.

That’s why I get mad when Jezebel and other outlets report this kind of story EVERY YEAR without any look into what’s happening.

That’s just appalling. I understand if you have an arrangement with a fashion label - you wear what they want you to wear, free of charge (or even paid to do so!). But if you want to have the freedom to pick what you want, then just pay for it like the rest of us!

No. She wasn’t going to. This is the same as happened last year with Leslie Jones.

Being the victim of body shaming is far more marketable than being a victim of fame shaming.

I am SURE she can borrow a dress from a number of stylists or designers.  For people who aren’t A list, it’s not that common to have a custom made outfit.

Exactly...we did not hear these stories when Adele was crushing the Grammy’s.

This seems like a likely scenario. I wonder if her assistants tried to cushion the “you’re not famous enough to have a custom dress” blow by telling her that her body shape was the problem. It’s obviously not—there are other celebrities with her shape that are dressed by designers.

Is it possible they don’t think she’s famous enough to make a custom dress and want to lend her only a sample size that’s ready to go? 😬
