I think that’s what is so hard for people to figure out about McCain. I don’t think he has an end game. He looks at the issues one by one and does what he thinks is right without all that much consideration to a larger strategy.

His lack of voting consistency shows very clearly he did this for the attention, accolades, and to keep up the maverick PR bullshit. I really don’t think there was a shred of selflessness there, even though it was the right vote.

Collins and Murkowski were threatened with gun violence and had their constituents threatened by the president of the United States. McCain is on his way out for cancer treatment. It was the very least he could do.

I think this was payback for Trump’s “I like people who weren’t captured” jab.
