Yep. And before that they did it with horses.

First, let me say wholeheartedly that you are correct. Most trucks never tow or go off-road. Most sports cars never go on a track. Most guitars hang on walls. Most sex swings stay in their packaging. Most gym memberships go unused.

Jason, this big wonderful country of ours has some unique places where money, masculinity, wide open spaces and bad weather converge. My friend in Jackson Hole just bought a F-250 King Ranch. Within 48 hours of taking delivery, he had used it go hunting, transport the elk to the butcher and drive to Reno getting 18

Can’t wait to hear what you think of it. I’m in a similar boat and Skys, MR2s and SC430s have all been calling to me.

20 years ago, when people were starting to talk about self-driving cars as a feasible technology, there seemed to have been a pretty clear consensus that infrastructure would have to come along for the ride. Well painted roads, clearly marked cross walks and protected bike lanes were all part of the equation to make

I’m imaging you putting wheels on a night stand full of Michelob Ultra while your wife gleefully bedazzles it.

I know the plural of anecdote isn’t data; but as a partnered, financially secure person who always wanted kids, I can say the hang up on having a kid has been climate change for us.

I hope you’re doing OK. Losing friends hurts deeply in ways that stick with you for a lifetime.

This is so wonderfully specific and accurate. Many chuckles were had.

I’ve always suspected these books aren’t made to be read. They are made to go next to also unread Hunter S. Thompson and Camus on a book shelf and serve as short hand for being worldly and interesting.

Like the BMW M2/4 we say earlier this week, this is what happens when design language has nowhere to go but bigger. I hope that first image is a designer’s unsubtle “fuck you” to a manager asking for more grill.

As a result of Covid, I have been exposed to my girlfriend’s terrible reality TV preferences for the last 6 months. My primary takeaway is that tacky rich people seemed to have embraced customized Sprinter vans as the ultimate luxury, because they have room to stand and a place to poop.

Gas stations in Oregon are basically an IRL “Meth: not even once” ad.

Thank you for saying that. Charging companies a penalty for using air freight, and incentivizing EV or PHEV semi trucks will bring a much faster change than moving the consumer auto market to EV.

To be clear, I’m talking about starting now.

I’m hoping we can have more of a Color revolution that leads to a better social safety net, climate action and an end to oligarchy instead of a Robespierre style murder spree.

Wind and solar can meet the US energy demand most of the time. We would probably need some LNG and nuclear to meet peak demand during August and January.

Depending on what you drive, there is a good chance that many of the components were made in China. If you drive a VAG or GM CUV or car made in the last 12 years, there’s a decent chance the engine was made there too.

Underrated post.

I should have been more clear. This was an irrational fear response that started after the 2016 election, and got worse when a Trump re-election looked likely.
