You had me at “the cat is menstrual.” Compelling, and rich.
Historically, the military was always very secular and pro democracy. Things Erdogan with his current policies trampled on. This is probably them defending the values of Kemal Atatürk (again).
It is an attempted coup by the secularist wing of the military.
The Turkish military does see itself as a check on the democratically elected government. However Erdogan did a lot to weaken the leadership in the military that could effectively lead a coup.
So if it’s that bad then why are you swimming around in it yourself?
For what I know and from an historical point of view, the Turkish military are the secular and anti-fundamentalist part of their society, still trying to enforce the pro-European and multi-cultural directives of Kemal Ataturk, that are despised by the present, fundamentalist muslim Government. Does this mention the two of you making out? There’s no way I’m reading it if it doesn’t.
Let me break it down for you then. So picture this. A child comes to London/NYC/Toronto/LA/wherever from Somalia or Sri Lanka. They don’t have the ability to draw on their own native culture since it’s geospecific (meaning that culture is tied to a specific bit of land from which they are severed). This…
NCAA should also step in. This is much bigger than infractions violating amateur status. Have a backbone about something other than forced exploitation of athletes.
She’s no different from the children of Somalis, who also fled civil war, who come to N. America and don the mannerisms of black and W. Indian people. They’re quick to condemn colourism in society (a huge problem in our own community and country and a subject often unaddressed), they love to show off their readings…
She strikes me as the Jafaican kids that populate Toronto. They assume that since their parents come from a region beset by strife, and their easy entry into black/W. Indian spaces, gives them permission to excuse their own ignorance of the existential plight of the black/W. Indian person in the "New World".
