Carriers are the wrong kind of muscle now. When it comes to defending this nation, Carriers are as obsolete as sailing ships. Any enemy capable of mounting an attack against this country will not be mounting a conventional attack. Think nuke, cyber, economic, bio, terrorism, etc..

The issue isn't that we don't need a defense capability, the issue is that Carriers are obsolete for that purpose and are a terrible investment that we can't afford.
