Non-car expert here but do a lot of hill driving, for context. I engine brake to avoid the short term risk of the brakes overheating and failing at a critical point.

For a manual, going downhill is safer because you maintain speed control. If you go down in neutral, you have to lean on the brakes to control speed so you lose your advantage there.

I don’t get why we (the Brits) are being told to “be more afraid” when, like, that’s the aim of terrorism? And the best defence is “lol no” and carry on?
