It’s like you said - it’s not about sex at all, but about power. Sex is only the medium to channel this particular kind of power. While there are many forms of power (financial, political), none is more personal, direct and intimate than invading someone else’s personal space and violating their physical agency.

Let me tell you: I’m a big-time dog lover, and I am disgusted by any juxtaposition of Black people with animals. Any normal person should be disturbed and angered by that. But then again, I’m Black, and don’t need convincing that my people are human beings deserving of dignity.
