I have more sympathy for Councils as they’re forced to sell their housing to tenants, can’t build more housing, and are therefore forced to be insanely selective now (especially as they’re still having to make cuts in the millions, with Devon County just announcing £5m in cuts where the councillors funnily enough

It’s been rather good (I’ve put the big news in another post). Thanks again for checking in by the way.

So a while back I was looking at a place to rent long-term and found what I thought was the perfect one. I mean this had everything like large rooms (and I mean actual large not just “large for the UK”), quiet location, not many other tenants if it happened to be in a block of flats, what I call walking distance to

Yanno, there are a lot of people who petsit just for a place to stay/minimal payment. Have you checked craigslist?

So sorry to hear that Maya. Here’s hoping one becomes available soon.

Shelter Cat Update!

Firstly, a huge thank you to all of you for your beautiful words last week after my dad's accident. I kept coming back to them all week; the warm and fuzzies were a lovely tonic. Now, there is good news! The orthapaedic team at our hospital have been working with the orthapaedic team at a hospital in Brisbane (state

I’m not having the best time mentally - the holidays always bring it about, combined this time around with Mr. Duck being between jobs for the second time this year - and I’m resisting making Major Life Decisions until I’m a little healthier in the brain. (For instance, I am both seriously considering working on

So, thanksgiving with my conservative relatives (lol). I identify as liberal and some truly frightening things were mentioned. (TW)

My deepest thanks again to all of you for your support last week about making the leap towards a new job and a new, better life for myself.

Almost all of my friends arrive to things late - I want to host a party beginning at 7pm? I tell them it starts at 5. I want to meet them for a quick lunch? Forget it, let’s talk on the phone while I eat. I’m meeting them for drinks? I’ll order one first and sit here for an hour with my book (yay for e-books, so it

I don’t know, there can be perks with waiting sometimes...

I’ve discovered my “soon” is most people’s “next year.”

A thing I really appreciate about the group of friends I’ve made over the years is that we’re all predictable when it comes to timeliness. There are three categories of behavior:
a. folk who are 5 min early / precisely on time.
b. folk who are usually 5-10 min late, but can tell you with precision how far away they are.

How soon “soon” is seems to be proportionate to the desirability of the event.

Longer than “I’ll be there in a minute” and shorter than “I’m just around the corner.”

Ta.

My parents moved away a few months ago which was pretty depressing because I’ve been lucky enough to always live close to my mom. I loooove my mom so much. So I hosted my first Thanksgiving today! My brother and his family came over, along with my husband’s brother, and it was really a delightful day. I’m quite

Happy Thanksgiving.

As a public service to my fellow pedants, I will make myself the scapeturkey. Since people don’t like me anyway, I will selflessly be “that guy.” Ahem...if one is acting to make the turkey less frozen prior to cooking, as is the custom, that turkey is said to be thawing. You’re welcome.
