The damn thing still caught on fire, that's not ok. There really isn't an argument against that, what are you going to say "car fires don't kill that many people"? Or are you going to point at gas powered cars and try to tell me its ok for Teslas to catch on fire because other cars do it? They rarely do it in crashes

How is it stupid to call BS on a modern car catching on fire when its in a crash? Specifically one that is marketed as being safe and should inherently have less of a risk of catching on fire.

OMG LOL LMAO what are you a middle school girl?

Lol, glad you're pissed off at least. Like I've said in other posts. I like to bash EVs and Tesla because no one else will and I want them to come up with a good product. I'd drive something electric if they didn't suck.

Advance at the cost of safety, not a very good idea...

Good! Maybe then they'll be motivated to find the cause.

Someone in one of the comments posted a 35mph crash test if you don't believe me. Its a modern crumple car and its supposed to deform and throw parts everywhere to absorb the impact. Then the thing caught on fire, which always makes it look worse.

That is entirely false. Do you know how a car's fuel tank works and do you know how what it takes to ignite fuel?

Your straw man argument is entirety irrelevant. I can't believe that I'm getting flamed by a bunch of fanboys for making the simple, and true, statement that its bad when a car catches on fire in a crash. Its pretty simple to figure out that fire is bad and it is not acceptable to have cars catching on fire in a

2 out of 12,000 in less than a year is really bad. You do not see that anywhere else. I'm picking up on this early but I bet it becomes an issue as time goes on if they don't do something about it first.

Like I said if they get around the rules they will be more successful than they should be. Then they will have a monopoly on the market while selling something that isn't really that great and we will have paid for them to get there. Right now they need the rebates/tax deductions, brown nosing from the press, and

Electricity isn't magic, I'm not even going to try to argue with you about it sparking here as you obviously don't understand how it works and aren't listening to me. Even if it managed to be the one in a million event where it did put power through the car it shouldn't do anything, unlike a lightning strike there is

If a c7 corvette caught on fire after crashing into something it would end up on this site and people would be "lolz GM sux!" and making generally making a scene out of it. Now it wouldn't happen if it were a Camry or something we don't care about.

Right... all I have been saying is that these things catch on fire at an alarming rate and no one seems to be concerned. This is insane.

A rigid plate isn't going to help that much honestly, if it bends at all it can burst a seam somewhere. Look at what they do on fuel tanks. There is a plastic shield to help deal with corrosion and debris, the metal tank, and then there is a bladder type thing inside the tank. That works well for gas cars.

That would be messy

I fell for your bait there on the suburban but something like a volvo or bmw would have had roughly the same kind of body damage as the Tesla. It did well in the lab tests so maybe a volvo would have crumpled a little more. Statistically speaking a gas powered car would be less likely to have caught fire in this

At least we agree they need to investigate this. Only time will tell how big of an issue this is.

I'd say run a suburban through the same wall and see what happens but that would be a pointless comparison. The fact is that a gas powered car is much less likely to catch on fire in crash, read the article you posted a link to. You need to compare apples to apples here and say in a crash a gas car is less likely to

Naw just dealing with a bunch of Tesla fanboys, this site is full of you guys. I mean you have argued that its not that big of a deal that the car catches on fire, what other shortcomings do you over look?
