Are you actually paying attention to Star Wars? If anything, the worldbuilding has shifted from Lucas’s binary Light/Dark morality to a wider spectrum. The Force is getting more complex, Imperial characters are shown to have humanity and depth, and the Rebels have their extremists.

Battlefront isn’t targeted at hardcore, online shooter fans. I’m with you. In that gif the hair clipping is all I saw, completely undermining whatever subtlety was going on in the face. To be fair, is a short clip taken out of context, it’s easy to hyperfocus on flaws like that.
I associate that perception with a more forgiving uncanny valley with non-humans. I don’t find the technical aspects of their facial animations significantly better, apart from the fact that they tend to have exaggerated features where it’s easier to show emotions.
