Having driven in China, I can attest to the ignorance on the highways.

Here he is, ladies and gentlemen: That Guy.

Nope. I’m in a truck, you’re in a tiny car. You do something dumb, I will be DAMN sure you’re involved in the resulting wreck.

Yeah, not a lot of 5 speeds from the 80's can handle much torque. T-5 breaks above 330 ft/lbs, The Dough Nash 4+1 wasn’t much better, Mopar still used the A833 albeit with an OD gear set. Wouldn’t be until the mod motor era that the T-45 and TR-3650 started being decent transmissions.

I’d call that a detour, not a crash.

Exhibit B, on the topic of “technically not crashing”:

In my experience, the name Doug Nash leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. This particular design strikes me as immediately foolish, having what appears to be aluminum in places that need to be steel. I’m just going at a glance, I could be wrong as I haven’t personally had one apart.

Mileage + price + potential repair costs = CP for sure.

Looks like I’m going to find myself in the minority for the second day in a row, but not just to be difficult. Eight grand for a car that is approaching where things start to go wrong just feels like too much. I’m comfortable at around six, maybe $6500 if they fix the busted headlight. You can bark back about the

I think everybody here started hitting the pipe a little early this morning. $8k for a 14-year-old Volvo? And that’s not including the front-end damage.

Because I like to be contrary and this is the Jalop wet dream vehicle of choice, I vote CP. Seriously though, I don’t have enough fugly and dire clothing with elbow/shoulder patches to be seen in this ride. Really; it’s not you, it’s me.

so much want ... but it’s still a 14 year old car with 150k, not yet a collectible nor a candidate given it’s mileage. CP

so much want, for the shifter alone ... but it’s still a 14 year old car with 150k, not yet a collectible nor a candidate given it’s mileage. CP, I’d be in at $5 maybe $6k but I’ve seen enough high mileage volvos of this era to know things start falling apart and before long it becomes a value/repair cost equation

Why would you want to be that miserable?

It’s less than $7000 partly because the Russian economy really is just that poor, but also because the level of technology inside that car still doesn’t match up with even a fairly old Kubota tractor.

Knowing GM, if it’s a good idea, they won’t do it. Also it probably was a huge piece of shit, like all GM products.

You r idiot.

So... You’re saying that we should have taken this up with the WTO instead of randomly throwing tariffs on products instead?

The article is less than transparent.

Holy hell this a straight-up crackpipe. If you want a “winter beater”, buy a $1k (ok, $1500?) Civic and get some snowtires for it. It’ll perform better than this, and probably be 15+ years newer, and be hundreds cheaper (to buy *and* to maintain). I can’t believe that “NP” is actually winning...
