What's the deal? Is Fat Joe Muslim?

But aren't they also profiting off of the same oversexualized stereotypes of black women that are so problematic here? Actually I think it's the industry folks who are really profiting in both cases. Not to take away from the troubling aspects of Miley's performance that you have highlighted. Especially the black

Selena Gomez = great dress, but she still looks like a little kid to me. I really don't know who most of these people are, but that dress with the long train, blech.

Why is everyone acting like all of this was thought up and executed by Miley all by herself? We know how all this works, right? The producers, stylists, agents, publicists all had a say in designing that awful performance, probably more than she did. And the cultural appropriation of black women's bodies. I'm

It is a good discussion, I'll grant you that!

I have to second the google comment, although I think you are being very nice about your question and recognizing that it's potentially offensive. But that's what's so great about the internet, you can ask it all kinds of rude questions before you impose your ignorance on other people. Hell, I ask it all kinds of

Thanks for the info.

Probably, yes. Muslims also circumcise.

Whoa. That's kind of deep.

My friend says it's a good way to get a bunch of guys to confirm that you are attractive.

MMMMust start watching SOA again and see Pacific Rimmmmm.

I thought your original comment was spot on. But I'm just a grey. Keep on.

It's actually happened to me twice. I'm not even very obviously a WOC, although the others were clearly upper middle class white women. I think once you get tagged as "other", these things start coming out. Hoping to get an offer soon to work for two WOC, I can't wait.

I've heard the same, but only from a few women co-workers. It's kind of retrograde, and the women I've heard say it are often younger and as another commentor said, accustomed to using sexuality to overcome weaknesses in performance. Or don't recognize their workplace weaknesses and think all criticism from women is

Try being a woman of color in a professional position, and constantly being unfavorably compared to the preppy white woman with less experience who earns more money. Even when her work is sloppy and you catch her typos all the time.

Meh, but I get it. He's one of those non-threatening average guys that ends up dating beautiful women because he makes them feel safe.

I hate Marnie. Happy to see the rest of them though!

I bet you look banging in pantsuits, nothing wrong with hips!

No, I mean it's great in a lot of ways, but a lot of my child free friends aren't out relaxing all the time is all I meant. Relationships, marriage, jobs, elder care, etc., still take a lot of time and effort. It's not like being in your 20s forever. There's more autonomy and potential for more career gratification

I disagree about the living wage, unless its a unionized gig. A lot of law-related nonprofits at least severely underpay for even positions requiring experience, so much so it seems they are really counting on getting in either desperate recent grads or candidates with rich spouses/parents who don't need the money.
