I was watching last night and realized how much more I could relate to these MODELS than to the characters on "Girls," although I look more like the girls on Girls.

And somehow we all survived.

I know it's been said, but I also LOVED Girlfriends, RIP! And Good Wife - which also shows in a very nuanced way the differences between women who made different choices and come from different places. It could do better in the latter, but its one show that I think is really trying, without resorting to easy

Exactly! Lena Dunham went to Oberlin, so I KNOW she knows better. Plus, most of the people I know from my Oberlin days had to work after college. This show is about the few that didn't, and I guess it's some fodder for satire, but that's not quite how this show is being publicized. Even as satire, there would have

But whatever you do, don't comment (on Jez) that a specific celebrity looks too skinny. You will be warned and your comment moved. I still can't believe it.

Can we just talk about how Angelina looks more and more like an old skinny upper east side lady?

But that's my point - it would be so EASY to make a show about those kids, even if watered down. Grad students/do gooders probably too depressing. But why these pasty do-nothings, I don't understand. It's a very small portion of the population that I have some experience with (although am not of), and trust me,

I know, I guess the bartenders, working musicians, grad students, and fashion/finance/non-profit workers under 30 are just too "boring" for television.

It's true. It has always been that way. Or they have some kind of nominal job to cover for their mooching.

Oh please, no! I would totally go gay for Minka.

There is something both mysogynistic and racist about the body type comments, do you see that? I mean it's so reductive and shallow. But I guess that's white men for you. :)

oh snap!

I haven't had quite that experience, but a few men I've dated have been into the fact that I'm Latina, as in "different and sexy." But then they realized that I'm a real person and got bored. I learned to weed them out faster.

This is why blind grading is good, although it doesn't stop people from saying stupid things.

I think it's just a better picture and some makeup.

Right - the last post got all these alums writing in to say they would gladly send their daughters to Dartmouth. Sad.

I really agree with you - I think it's enough of an established acronym that co-optation by these folks is kind of presumptuous and offensive. But then again, look at the community of people we're talking about.

I have many beautiful friends; I have only one who once told me that every man she meets is attracted to her. She used to float around like she was posing for the camera. I stopped hanging out with her because she was annoying, not because she was beautiful. What's kind of odd is that most of the men she dated were

This is really interesting, and I would definitely agree with your last point. I have met some brilliant people that went to smaller liberal arts schools. It's not always best in the long run to be the top high schooler with the really impressive extras - if you are smart, a hard worker, and an interesting person

Yes, I was going to add UNC - Chapel Hill to that list. I got waitlisted there for grad school and ended up going to a "private Ivy."
