Because everything you need to play a character is on the page and in the direction. Reading the comics, at best, gives you insight into a character who shares some aspects but is inherently not the same character as the one in the movie. At worst, it gives you ideas that run against the movie's own characterization

He tends to be considered a bad director less because of his visual sensibilities, which are normally (and rightly) praised, and more because of his complete lack of grip on his story and themes and even less grip of his own psyche. He takes a "kitchen sink" approach to everything he does, throwing in any visual and

I would like a story the derives its drama from well-built, interesting character dynamics. Not from out-of-nowhere action scenes who's only driving force is a literal ticking clock.

Very true!

Both in reality and in the universe of the comics, the doomsday clock is a physical thing.

Ok, so I HATED Man Of Steel. I think its an awfully put together movie, with a terrible script, poor understanding of character, conflicting themes, etc. etc. But for all that, I can't get worked up about the massive destruction of Metropolis. In fact, its one of the few things in the movie that makes

also a now-deleted tweet from a guy i follow who knows people who was there said "Man, hearing great things about Godzilla"

Yeah. Me too. Based on hints dropped around I get the impression people liked it. There seems to be a bit of excitement around the embargo being lifted and people being able to release their reviews, which is often a good sign. Devin Faraci said that this (paraphrased) quote from Gareth Edwards (the director) summed

There's an actual embargo up on it. I know there was a press screening and Q&A in LA a little while ago, but there's an embargo up until May 11th. I'm sure if you look hard you'll be able to find a reviewer or two brave/foolhardy enough to break it though.

I think one of the original reasons for Godzilla's atomic breath and associated blue light was to reinforce the atomic bomb-imagery that originally inspired the movies. The blue light is supposed to be (or at least remind us of) the Cherenkov radiation seen in nuclear reactors. Its actually explicitly identified as

I'm really thinking Sin City. Its been nearly 10 years since the first one, and I don't think its as well remembered as the makers of this like to think. People love the comics, but the general public I think are gonna give it a miss.

Best thing about this video: It reminded me of how fantastic the Lego Movie is.

Lol. That's what I thought at first, but none of the other cast are listed alphabetically!

I'm super excited for both Boyega and Driver. They're both amazing performers who've just started coming into their own. I can really see them as both characters struggling with the Dark Side of the force, maybe with one submitting (Driver), giving us a villain for movie 2, and one resisting (Boyega) giving us a hero!

Yeah, I thought it was a one off too, but it looks like the floodgates are open now.

Yeah, that used to be true. I remember it was a big deal when Jack Black got them to sign off on using Immigrant Song in School Of Rock. I don't know what's happened, but they sure seem more liberal about it than before.

Right now I'm reading The First Fifteen Lives of Harry August, next I'm either gonna read The Magic Goes Away or A Canticle For Liebowitz, or something else that the good people of io9 might recommend!

Yup, for realy realz. It super sucks.
