Excellent piece. I think a lot of this Lego-izing comes from an honest desire from people who love movies to contribute to that world, but have no real insight to add. So instead they either do something glib, which ultimately ends up undermining the thing they claim to love (cf. CinemaSins, Honest Trailers), or

I don't know to be honest, I can see the muted & calm thing, but very light greens always have a sickly feel to me.

I'm currently reading them all to my wife, and we just started Order Of The Phoenix. I barely made it through Cedric's death. I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to make it through a certain event in this book at all.

I read this post with no real color opinions, so wasn't going to post, but #D0F0C0 is so gross-looking that now I have a least favorite color.

Drop Silicon Valley. I haven't seen a lot of it, but from what I've seen its real unfunny, kinda mean-spirited and surprisingly dumb.

I honestly can't emphasize enough how much the LOTR and Harry Potter books and films have impacted my life. The Harry Potter books especially are so intrinsically tied in with my childhood and adolescence that in a lot of ways they ARE my childhood and adolescence.

Oh man, I completely forgot to mention this but these books had a HUGE impact on my life, worldview, and my concept of what a story could be.

I wouldn't be the person I am today without Star Trek TNG/DS9, Buffy, Farscape and Sliders. Sometimes I feel like those shows raised me more than my parents did. Also literally hundreds of books should make this list. Also Radiohead and Led Zeppelin (and, if I'm being honest, Linkin Park).

Very interesting.

Also, a personal favorite: "Remebering Otis", which has loads of footage from the amazing '66 Stax-Volt tour. Sam & Dave absolutely steal the show.

Sounds great! I will seek out this movie immediately!

Cool! I might have to check it out! Is it a good intro to the band, or should I dig into some recordings first?

God, that's so perfect.

I think if we're talking best looking concert film, Shine A Light is definitely in the mix, as is the beautiful Heima (the Sigur Ros concert film/documentary)

Yeah, The Last Waltz is definitely up there for me. It's a fantastic piece of work.
I don't know the Drive By Truckers one (never really listened to 'em), but I've seen a bunch of the footage from R30 and it's a great performance.

Oh the Ziggy Stardust concert film is an INCREDIBLE thing. Bowie's costumes are out of this world, Mick Ronson's guitar playing is incredible, Jeff Beck shows up at one point.

Throw some opinions at me: What's the best concert movie ever made? My current vote is Demme's Stop Making Sense, but there are many many gaps in my knowledge. What do you guys think?
