If that were a Border Bollie it would have shifted not drive and headed off down the highway herding up Priuses.

I dunno. Musk’s team at least went out and made a real utilitarian, no nonsense body. More than Land-Rover did.
Yeah but it’s a one off, somebody just making a quick bit of high speed furniture can’t be expected to do that.
Err. Yes? Seems like an excellent idea to me, this is the kind of thing police should be encouraging. And they will do when I am king of the world.
Mate, you are a man after my own heart! I did much the same with my Land-Rover 109" van back in the day. Nice one, keeping it real.
In what way was the vehicle “unsafe” I wonder?
Excellent. I really like his take on what quality means. Articulate too.
Deja Vu, I remember that gearshift - like a rifle bolt. You don’t get gear changes that nowadays.
I have gone for a 200Tdi, the first decent Land-Rover diesel - this is an reinforced evolution of the old Land-Rover block with an Austrian designed aluminium cylinder head and direct injection by “Ze Chairmans” (Bosch). Still almost purely mechanical with only a little solenoid to cut the fuel off.
“Like totalitarian brutalism filtered through the naivete of socialist realism that makes you go “awwwww”.”
”soviet charm” … I hadn’t seen those two words in the same sentence before, and certainly not relating to anything the Sovs “engineered”.
The paint is all wrong on the civilian one and the box on the back looks quite unmilitary to my never-been-in-the-army eyes. And I doubt even the military models there are meant to “assault” anything, I going to guess they are just general transport trucks.
… “assault style vehicle”? Really?
I’d assume there’s a pretty good alarm system on that.
I’m sure you’re aware but the Park Brake is, of course, a transmission brake on the back of the transfer box, no connection with the hydraulic discs.
Being as it’s the USA - Cummins. They’re common there I understand and I hear good things about them.
The chassis does indeed not rust much on Disco 1s*, however the body does. so check the rear floor over the fuel tank, inner wings (US=fenders?), wheel arch where the rear doors close etc. Yes there are parts available for all of this, if you are handy with a welder.
My mother kept geese when I was a kid, can confirm that geese are total arseholes.
Maybe this could be a good emergency feature for people who feel vulnerable and don’t relish the thought of walking into a dark parking lot.
I grew up around horses and my Mum used FWD 4 cyl station wagons (estate cars) to pull her twin axle two horse trailers. I mean yeah she knew a Range-Rover would do the job better but it would eat into money she could be spending on horses.
