I play Rocket League almost daily. The chat can be very toxic at times, even from your own teammates. If you are just starting out I would recommend going into the options and turning off all chat. Just until you get more comfortable. 

I agree. Plus it's really not hard to find a veteran to talk to and get the low down of what they experienced starting out in boot camp and such. I have a lot of friends that served and I bet if I asked all of them, not one of them would say they were tricked into anything.
