Having recently rewatched Hackers, I think the idea of writers being involved at all is hilarious. But to your point, was there an earlier movie that used a similar virus?

You mention Office Space for the virus that ate pieces of transactions, but people forget where that idea originated. If you go back and rewatch Hackers, the virus in that movie is essentially the same thing.
