Stadiums and arenas should be built close to public transit hubs and bustling bar and restaurant districts, so that you don’t have to worry about transportation and that you can transition seamlessly from pregame to game to post-game never spending more than fifteen minutes without a drink in your hand.

The last time the Senators played the Habs in the playoffs they didn’t let people from Montreal buy tickets. Habs fans still made up at least a third of the crowd because a) there are a ton of Mtl fans in Ottawa, and b) a bunch of Montrealers bought tickets on the secondary market (myself included).

The NHL has come up with some astoundingly terrible team names since the 90s. The Nashville Predators and Minnesota Wild are far worse than any team name in the NBA. And don’t forget that the Anaheim Ducks were named after a fucking Disney movie.

Probably pretty similar. Although I doubt the Oregonian is trying to convince readers that their rights as English speakers are under constant attack

That’s a fair enough point. I feel like the Gazette in particular has alienated younger readers with its editorial stance, but that might be an industry-wide problem as well.

It’s Montreal’s only English newspaper, and at this point half of its content is from the National Post anyway.

I have a vivid memory of my mother reading an article he wrote about the olympics’ opening ceremonies and calling him a jackass. It was the first time I ever heard her say “ass”.

The Gazette exemplifies everything that’s wrong with English Montreal. When it’s not jerking itself off over how Montreal is such a cosmopolitan and progressive city, its editorial position is alarmingly conservative.

That’s precisely the kind of attitude that got him traded out of Montreal for an older, worse player. Supposedly he was a distraction to the team because he actually has a personality.

Holy shit. The party that suggested banning religious imagery lost in a landslide in an election that was essentially a referendum over that proposal, with virtually no support in Montreal. The Conservatives also proposed banning Muslim religious imagery in the last federal election. I guess that makes all of Canada

None of the players on the team who had a problem with PK even speak French. The French media, who are the reason Montreal is scared to hire a non-Francophone coach, treated the Subban trade like a national tragedy. The two have nothing to do with each other.

The French coach thing, while moronic, has absolutely nothing to do with race. Unlike most of the players on the team PK actually took the time to learn a few token French phrases. By and large, the hardline French crowd adored him. It’s the stuffy (predominantly English) old-school hockey people who had a problem

Haha well I also bartended in downtown Montreal for six years so I learned that long before my trip to the gahden. I’ve served thousands of people from Boston, most of them pleasant enough, but the worst I’ve ever seen was a bachelorette party comprised of women exactly like you described. I had to ask them to leave

Like any fan base, most Bruins fans are decent people, but they have a VERY vocal minority who are violent racist idiots. I’ve heard that this minority is more prevalent among Bruins fans than among Boston’s other teams. Hockey, being a mostly white sport where you’re encouraged to punch your opponent in the face, is

Synthetic marajuana, huh? I always knew PCP was a gateway drug.

True, but they’ve both probably had a lot more anal sex than I have

Realistically speaking, what’s the best possible outcome for a fan grabbing a player’s stick? Did this idiot think that Wideman would just shrug and let him keep it, and that the rest of the Ottawa players wouldn’t notice?

You forgot to mention that the caps led 2-0 five minutes into the game and had a chance to completely ice the game in the second, up 3-1 with two leafs in the box.

Delays at the blueline, drawing two Rangers out of the play, and then delivers a blind backhand pass to exactly the perfect spot, finding Galchenyuk in stride. Sublime.

Knowing his reputation, I was a little skeptical when the habs signed him, especially since Montreal is a pretty fun city if you’re the type of person who enjoys drinking til 5am. But from day one it seems like he’s been giving 100% effort every night, and he’s replaced Subban as the guy who puts you on the edge of
