Yeah but why should the Pelicans want anything LA had to offer?  You can’t get fucked out of a deal when you ain’t got the money to begin with.  Ball Kuzma Ingram etc won’t develop into 50 cents on the dollar.

“But if the worst-case scenario does happen and Davis just walks away for nothing in 18 months, the Pelicans won’t have won anything.

I’m not saying the 76ers aren’t good or don’t have a chance to win the East, but the Bucks are beating the ever-living fuck out of everybody, have the best record in the NBA, and just got better, so I’m not sure how one can say the 76ers are the favorite.

The Bucks have been seriously disrespected by the national media.  Replacing Ersan’s minutes with Mirotic’s makes Milwaukee the favorite to lose to the Warriors in 6 games.

So, a number of very expensive contracts for old guys who aren’t worth that money anymore are cited to explain why the Giants aren’t truly interested in signing Harper.

such a coveted player

I disagree, the reason being most FOs and many players hate what AD, LeBron, and Rich Paul are trying to pull off here. The dude is trying to switch teams with 2 years left on his contract! Specific teams! That’s an insane precedent.

I’m sorry, we’re all just going to sit here and take Windy at face value?! The guy is employed because LeBron and his camp trust him, and they’ve been leaking things through him since LeBron was in high school. I don’t even mind Windy, but to think he’s objectively reporting on something here while giving out VERY

Are you new around here? You just reduced both Deadspin and Splinter’s content output to ashes.

There are a lot of bad GMs throughout sports but Deadspin really needs to get over this current trend where they think every team should spend as much money as possible. It's a really annoying pattern and boring, thoughtless analysis.

I’d also like to ask these folks... Of the players that signed so far (ie in reality) who has gotten boned this offseason? And is that number of boned players in-line or out-of-line with the number of players perceived to have been boned in other seasons?

When is Deadspin going to admit that signing high-priced free agents to long contracts North of 200 million doesn’t usually work that well in MLB?

If LeBron and AD get together, Ball probably gets shipped off to the Pelicans and then some shit team like the Heat.  It would be A Lonzo Mourning.

I can’t help but get the feeling he was browbeaten by a unified front into making this decision. Klutch definitely raises an eyebrow or two.

This match felt like the ur-example of how men’s tennis has gone the way of peak-Lance Armstrong cycling. What is almost certainly rampant doping employed by players who would already be at the top of their field makes for deeply noncompetitive tournaments filled with amazing but somehow soulless feats of athletics.

This was not what I was hoping for, but you have to give Novak credit, he just plain whipped Nadal. Seeing Rafa so discombobulated was almost uncomfortable for me. I think his style has just worn him down, and he just couldn’t cope with the terminator on the other side.

I feel bad for Pelicans fans. They deserve a player like Davis. That organization, however, does not. It’s been a tire fire for years, and the owners should sell it to someone who cares about basketball.

Davis’s and Kyrie Irving’s existing contracts both fall under the Rose Rule, which governs the contracts high-performing players coming off their rookie deals can sign, and NBA rules prohibit two Rose Rule players from being on the same roster at the same time.

Im sorry Gabe but all value is subjective. Meaning there is no objective standard of what something is worth. Machado and Harper are not “worth” any particular salary. Yes, in the past, players similar to them (or even worse than them) got big ling term deals. That’s is no guarantee of future deals and not proof that

Dude. He was great. Bernie Kosar did preseason for the Browns for a while and could do the same thing.
