I watched the video and the gif. I only saw one truly bad call. The called third strike on Gardner was a little inside, but it was close, and you could argue it caught a little bit of the inside of the plate. The pitch in the gif was again a close call. It probably should have been a strike, but Sanchez probably

I think it was a bit of both. Coco definitely deserves credit for fighting to get back into that match, and she came up with some big shots. But part of the reason Coco was able to get back into the match was because Hercog lost all confidence and was afraid to go for winners. Hercog started serving up slice after

I only saw her match against Hercog. Hercog was winning pretty easily until she double-faulted on match point and then completely fell apart.

Deadspin might be right about the owners not paying enough and not trying to compete, but it was wrong to use Harper and Machado as poster boys. Both had significant red flags that rightfully gave teams pause before handing out the massive paydays these guys were asking for. I like both players. They aren’t worth $300

He probably is!

I bought into it for a long time. I’m actually a fan of his. I liked his brashness when he first came into the league. But sometime toward the middle of last season, I finally accepted that he’s just not the player he’s been hyped to be.

The Bryce Harper the Phillies paid a bazillion dollars for in the offseason is supposed to be a dominant slugger, an OPS machine who powers Philadelphia’s offense from the middle of the lineup. If that Bryce Harper is just being who he normally is, the Phillies would not need to shift players around to juice their

No, they are not. This offer was much better than the one the Lakers made in February. Plus, the Pelicans were right to wait and see what the Celtics would offer. If the Celtics thought they were confident they could keep Kyrie, maybe they would have been willing to part with Tatum.

No. This comment is pointing out how wrong Deadspin was about the Davis situation. Earlier in the year, they were criticizing the Pelicans for not trading Davis to the Lakers before the trade deadline.  They even argued that the Pelicans might not get as good of an offer as the Lakers made at that time.

The relevant discussion starts at about 7:16.

Yep. I couldn’t believe the Raptors got up by 6 at the end there. GS shot lights out from three, and the Raptors were trying to give this game away.  GS probably is not going to shoot that well again, and Toronto won’t play as poorly.

The chances that these were unrelated is pretty small, don’t you think?

It’s nuanced. There are a lot of guys who are banged up and playing through injuries in these finals. Kawhi doesn’t look right. Looney’s messed up. Cousins isn’t fully healthy. When it’s a minor injury, and they’re only risking re-aggravating a muscle strain, or some other minor injury, then fine, play through it.

It’s the finals.  Durant, Cousins, Looney, Klay - even Iguodala.  All of them would be getting a lot more rest if this weren’t the finals.  .

I’m not a fan of Windy, and hate the way he tries to spin narratives to make Lebron look like a saint.  But in this case, it didn’t seem like he was spinning anything.  It seemed like he was simply offering a reason for why the Warriors were being so cautious.

Oh, I agree with all of that. I believe the reports that KD was dying to get out there and play. I’m just saying that I think they all knew this was a legitimate risk, and it is probably why he didn’t play until Game 5.

I didn’t see the Federer match.  I recorded it, but then when I saw the score, I couldn’t bring myself to watch it.

I have no problem with Kaepernick kneeling. I also don’t have a problem with the owners deciding that he is not a good enough quarterback to justify the pr headaches that he brings.

Two thoughts:
