I definitely don’t agree with some of what she said, and think a lot of liberals focus too much on some kind of purity instead of the bigger picture. Like I said in another comment, though, TS’s stance on feminism isn’t just her personal views, it’s part of her brand. As the latter, I think there’s more room to

JLo hasn’t marketed her feminism to the same extent, though. Beyonce arguably has, but “Formation” and the ensuing criticism alone was more than anything Swift’s done.

I think a lot of them are pretty young, too, and that’s scary as well.

I kept hoping Kotaku would have an article about Beglitched. Nice game, happy to see it get a shout out.

I agree. I usually don’t judge celebrities too harshly either, and judging other people’s feminism can be dangerous. But I think companies deserve to be side-eyed when they take the least controversial, easiest to perform parts of a movement and use them to promote their products. Taylor’s personal views here are

I don’t think celebrities are necessarily obligated to voice political concerns, but when TS uses feminism as marketing, I think she somewhat opens herself up to this kind of criticism.

lol yeah, nobody likes Cibola Burn all that much. I liked Elvi but the pacing in that one felt slower to me.

I like show alright, but I like the books a lot better. The show mostly makes everyone younger and more broody. The books have more time to spend on character development and politics.

I saw this story on another news site, which pointed out that the app links the collected info with specific email accounts. So creepy.

They have just enough self awareness to know that saying outright trans folks should fuck off is looked down on in polite society

For many gamers I don’t think it’s outright prejudice so much as a lack of empathy and a subconscious desire to hold on to their majority status - the same thing happens whenever there’s a discussion about issues relating to POC or women in games. Many people come from such a position of privilege that they honestly

Either are fine by me. I’m not posting my disagreement in multiple areas, not starting a #movement to get someone fired, not caterwauling about the horrible injustice of a shit joke, etc.

No, I think that some people’s offense is overblown relative to the offense and the actual result. That opinion isn’t changing.

That’s a hypocritical thing to say. You’re offended by other people’s offense, and yet you haven’t closed the browser. That makes me think that it’s not about moving on from being offended, it’s about whether or not they’re offended about something you agree with.

Alright, but the point I’m making is that these annoyed women don’t see it as just a harmless stupid joke, without any meaning - it’s actually sexist. But it’s the kind of sexism that a lot of women see often enough that they don’t have the time or energy to call it out.

Eh, you’re underestimating the number of women who are annoyed by stuff like this without being incredibly offended.

It’s not harmless, though. These “jokes” about stereotypes, even when they’re meant ironically, contribute to stereotype threat and confirm the prejudices of people who actually believe those stereotypes. You can call it out without considering it to be the actions of a “real enemy.”

Get Out. It’s as good as everyone says.

I wonder if these incidents are already sort of copycats - the Nazis purposely destroyed a lot of Jewish cemeteries.

I wish I could star you more. We should be able to have conversations about these things without telling “the other side” that they’re ignorant or only reacting based on anger.
