When they came for the Bad Hombres, I didn’t protest because I’m not an MS-13 member.
When they came for the Bad Hombres, I didn’t protest because I’m not an MS-13 member.
And people said I was overreacting when I compared Trump et al to the Nazis.
Baby steps. That’s how the fascists do it; chipping away at us one piece at a time. First it’s MS-13, then it’s just ‘illegals’, then it’s ‘hispanics’ and pretty soon it’s ‘non-whites’.
This is exactly why it matters when the administration refers to MS13 as “animals.” Because they use that to dehumanize everyone they can, one step at a time. First it’s known gang members, then people with any criminal background, having the wrong tattoo, hanging out at the wrong place. It’s all done so that any one…
You know what, that’s true in most myths. You can’t read a Greek Myth without Zeus turning himself into a bull and raping every virgin in sight. Weird.
It’s not widespread, but some people call Evangelical Christianity “Paulism” because that’s what it is. Although, modern biblical scholarship attributes much of the awful Paul stuff to another even later writer.
The real problem was the Council of Nicea, the group that, for political reasons, decided what writings did and did not go in the Bible. This practiced has been mimicked again and again throughout history as various kings and governments have snipped and edited their theological dogmas in an effort to control people.…
Paul was the salesman/conman. The Trump of the early church.
Sometimes I wonder how Christianity would have fared if that asshole Paul had never shown up. I’m an atheist, but reading Jesus’ words it’s hard not to like the guy- he was a radical determined to shake up those in power, he taught that people deserved to be treated well, preached that the poor should be fed and…
The sexual abuse within the church is a feature, not a bug. Women are inherently inferior to men, and men own them sexually. Those beliefs, no matter how much they are couched in softer words, lead to abuse, period. Anyone who has read the bible knows that is not an accident, considering the book is full of slaves and…
“The individuals released were teenagers who are U.S. citizens”
Don’t lose sight of this:
I have never truly felt actively suicidal, but the closest I’ve felt is what you describe: “if I died in my sleep tonight I wouldn’t really care.”
Hi, as someone who just had shit break real bad in my life, you’re great, thanks for doing that for them and for your comment here.
I spent hours researching women leaders and pioneers and disruptors and finding all the stories I could about those women to correlate to the failures and fears they wrote down, and then I hand wrote those stories under their statements in a book.
don’t like to show their effort: That spoils the magic
It’s so sad that the well-being of her brand was more important that her mental well-being. But, realistically, she wasn’t wrong in her way of thinking. Being open about mental illness also means being open to criticism and dealing with the stigma that mental illness still carries. How many people keep smiling on the…
Many of the most successful, self-possessed, vibrant, independent women in my life struggle mightily with depression and anxiety, and go between wanting to put it all out there — listen, if I can live through this, so can you — and wanting to keep it all hidden, because showing weakness will ruin her capacity to be a…
It really speaks to the need to destigmatize mental illness. Whether it’s situation depression or a chronic disgnosis, it’s part of the human condition and admitting that only makes it easier for others to talk about their experiences and realize they are not alone.
Saffo said she and Andy Spade tried to help Kate check into treatment centers, but that she never went because “the ‘image’ of her brand (happy-go-lucky Kate Spade) was more important for her to keep up. She was definitely worried about what people would say if they found out.”
