Your library probably cobbled together a chick lit section because that is what people commonly borrow from that branch and it makes it easy for the patron to find new books. In another branch, the same books would likely be found in general fiction. My former job did the same for “urban lit”. The titles aren’t great

It might have — but a lot of places will stick these books in more seemingly “appropriately” labeled genres. “Chick lit” is a controversial label, as you can see. :)

I’m glad that so many people are deciding to go on record, using their real names, as being on the absolute wrong side of history. When you see photos of people milling about at lynchings or attacking peaceful Civil Rights protestors, they’re mostly anonymous white faces. History books of the future can point to the

I was thinking the same. “In the final days men will be EXACTLY LIKE TRUMP. RUN AWAY!!”

Did you hear how much of a mentor Stephen’s become to the pool boy? The hours they spend together in his study!

Wait, does Mary think 2 Timothy 3 is helping her cause? She thinks that is describing Trump in a positive way?

That was my first response, but good for her, having the integrity not only to launch this product but to also ignore her son's idiocy (he's an adult, she's not responsible for his actions anymore).

I got turned away from a group ran by a doula that does prenatal yoga - the one my hospital recommended I join. It goes from prenatal to postnatal group support. I thought it would be good for me and so did my therapist. But they told me I couldn’t join because I wasn’t planning to breastfeed. Guess what? I can’t for

Here’s the part where I whisper that although I admire Glennon’s social media savvy and commitment to social justice causes, I actually find her writing style annoying (the coining of cutesy new words like “brutiful” — ugh!) and am also baffled by the cult-like devotion of her fans, many of whom act like she is

This is essentially Jodi Picoult’s stance on the “chick lit.” label. It’s “chick lit.” because it’s written by a person with a vagina. Jodi bristles at the label, gives her thoughts about it (and about male authors of “chick lit.”) whenever asked, but doesn’t necessarily go out of her way to complain about it in

If Trump is elected everyone will die except for one drunk and his family.

Haha wat? My mother has spent my entire life regaling me with the story about how she refused an epidural until the last second when it was too late and regretted it enough to make me feel bad about it as a grown man.

It’s the same problem with “trigger warning.” Trigger warnings for people with PTSD who experience literal physical reactions to certain situations make sense. Trigger warnings in the sense of “Anything that anyone, anywhere, might find upsetting needs a content warning” are absurd. But the term is used in the latter

It’s actually really common. A friend f mine lives in a small town and works in admin/secretary work. She was abused by her husband, who was a rather powerful guy, and left him and moved back home (early 30s). Everyone lives in this small town. She had obvious bruises. Everyone knew what was going on.

The funny part is this pregnancy has literally destroyed my fucking body. I have to wear support garments, rest on my side at least 12 hours a day, can’t drive myself very far, and can’t exercise. I’ve also been puking and on anti nausea meds for this entire pregnancy. It’s been the most hellish thing I’ve ever done.

I'd have made a concerted effort to go into labor at that moment just for them

Go to your room

*sigh*
