I think the cultural ties between the UK and NZ/Oz are stronger, so maybe we’re exposed to it a lot more (and therefore we find it more objectionable). The Oz accent in general I find offensive, particular when it’s an Ozzie bloke talking.

Ever met anyone from New Zealand? They upspeak all the time. It’s part of the accent, I guess. The guy I worked with from there was described as “cute” for speaking that way.
