17 years? The Sister Vanilla album from like 8 years ago was more or less the Reid brothers with their (talented, more-than-capable) sister on vocals, wasn't it? That doesn't count? *checks JAMC wiki page & finds no reference to it* Okay, did I just dream that album happened?

That follow up album actually wasn't bad ("Ones and Zeroes" and "Devil You Know" were okay songs anyway, the rest I don't remember making an impression, I just don't remember hating the thing… Before them it was the Stone Roses who were the sound of the future, and a few years later it was Tricky… Mostly just

That's right, we did… How weird was *that*!?!

"Marge and George and Leee-Roy" just made me laugh out loud. Thank you for that

Good call on the first Sing-Sing album… I always thought Emma was the better songwriter.

All of them? *rim shot* …Seriously though there are a few BH songs where Calvin "sings" a cappella while somebody does percussion by banging on something in the background… "Honey Pot" or "Christmas" from the first album, the title track from 'Jamboree', "Gravedigger Blues" from 'Black Candy' is Calvin vox + finger

Ha! Hey waitaminnit, I love goth bands, Lush AND Beat Happening; I'm screwed.

He also produced the Mad Love EP, which contained "De-Luxe"

Their first EP came out October '89… They formed in '87… They weren't the first, more like they were "one of the first" - when shoegaze became a "thing" in the British press circa '89-'90, they were among the handful of bands who got the most ink (Ride, Moose, Slowdive, Pale Saints, Kitchens of Distinction, MBV)

I Lit Up when I heard about the reunion :-)

There's really good stuff on all of their albums… The 'Ciao' best-of is far from perfect, but a good a place to start as any.

Chris Acland's suicide was the final straw, but I think Emma had one foot out the door anyway, if I remember correctly… And I think they were all frustrated at their inability to "break big" in the U.S., having made their poppiest, most listener-friendly album, and having played Lollapalooza, they just sort of gave up.

Wasn't ideal, but they handled it better than I would have expected, including some of the more "rocking" songs in their set (like "Bitter" from their first EP, and "Superblast") to make more of an impact… "De-Luxe" sounds great no matter what the venue.

Man, this pun thread is a real Downer

Doctopus for short.

Yeesh! That was the one plot point that annoyed the shit out of me at the time… Freaking out and doing something stupid because someone calls you "chicken?" That's some Saturday morning cartoon shit right there.

Upvoted for the Slime with Eyeballs reference. Had forgotten about that.

*calls the office* "Can't come in to work today… Got scurvy!"

You might even say that we ATE the Shawshank Redemption, and it's IN our STOMACHS right now!

I would never try to argue otherwise… And "Ballad of Jimi Hendrix" > "Ballad of Dio" for that matter, but since this is supposed to be about All Things Dio…
