Trust me on this one; this is a law that exists for a very good reason.

Counterpoint: it should be illegal to turn off your headlights. My old car wouldn’t let me. It was literally impossible for me to forget to turn them on or off. The number of people I see who need to have their lights on boggles the mind. It still took 100,000 miles to burn out the first set of light bulbs.
Why is that bad exactly? I’m speaking of the backup cameras in particular. The rear visibility is so poor on newer vehicles I’m 100% for it.

Headlights should be permanently on if the car is turned on. There shouldn’t even be a headlight switch.

What REALLY bakes my noodle is that the Germans actually go out of their way to make US/Canada-specific taillights with red directionals when the ones they use in Europe (with ambers) would be completely compliant in the US.
