Cops can’t stay home. I’ve gotten plenty of good answers on how civilians should react, but not one answer about the “correct” way for a cop to react in that situation.

I just don’t see how reversing would ever work unless you’re on a deserted highway with NOTHING in sight for at least a mile.  The second you start reversing, the mob will chase after you.  So you have to reverse QUICKLY and put enough distance between you and them for you to turn around safely before they catch up.
