Forgive me, but I don’t understand the point of comparing the specific outputs of pushrod and DOHC engines.
Gearing can’t make up for a lack of torque.
If we’re going to bring racecars into the mix, it’s only fair to acknowledge the 18,000 RPM screamers from F1's V10 era.
The LS engines are the antithesis to DOHC. There is simply no compelling argument in favor of DOHC over an LS engine.

That figure doesn’t tell the whole story. In the same way you can’t raise today’s children for the world you were raised in, you can’t compare yesteryear’s wages with the value of today’s goods and services.
The products are cheaper. Remember when flash drives cost $30 for 128mb? Now you can buy 2tb for that price.
I would be extremely surprised if even 20% of Toyota owners got them serviced even once in the cars lifetime. I suspect half of them haven’t had their oil changed in the last 30K miles, and still have the original brake fluid.

College in other nations is also...shit...compared to American universities. My semester abroad in Sydney was an absolute joke. Enormous class sizes, understaffed, absolutely zero resources, painfully easy curriculum, etc. As an architecture student, I was accustomed to having a dedicated studio with my own private…
